Northern California BDR Section 2
After a ride up Hwy 395, turn onto Burcham Flat Road to hit the dirt. If you dare, take the optional Expert tracks, but make sure you allow several hours. Expect steep, rocky, loose terrain with sheer drop offs as you summit Mount Patterson (11,673’), and rocks and potentially deep sand on the remote Sweetwater Loop north of Lobdell Lake. If you summit Patterson and have had enough, simply backtrack the way you came and rejoin the main route. These challenging sections should not be attempted late in the day or alone as they are remote with no bailouts and don’t reconnect with the main route for nearly 40 miles.
Continuing northward, follow the smooth turns of Hwy 89 as it climbs over Monitor Pass (8,314’). The paved fun intensifies on Hwy 4 as the road narrows to one lane over Ebbetts Pass (9,186’), marking the official transition from the steep escarpment of Eastern Sierras to the more gentle slopes of the western flanks of the Great Sierra Nevada Range.

About Backcountry Discovery Routes:
Backcountry Discovery Routes® (BDR®) is a non-profit organization that creates off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. We have introduced a new route with free GPS tracks for the community every year since 2010.
Routes can be downloaded from our website at www.ridebdr.com
Our work includes rider education, safety campaigns and promoting responsible travel for motorcyclists traveling in the backcountry.
Our volunteer-powered organization works with agencies and land managers to keep trails and remote roads open for motorcycling.
Each route generates new tourism that delivers sustainable economic relief to less-advantaged rural communities. This creates local stakeholders who will help fight to keep access for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles in these incredible backcountry areas.

    Love the WYBDR footage. When I rode through Wyoming on the Continental Divide it just looks like Wyoming is a big desert, but it has so much more to offer. I will say, I enjoy the serene and wide open empty spaces of the desert more than most, but love the footage your team has captured. Makes me wanna ride the BDR! Keep up the great work.

It’s like an annoying mosquito in your ear.😂 While you're waiting to cast your vote, for let’s go Brandon, I'll be repelling you’re enemy that surrounds you, For I am strong, and you are weak, And I'll protect you with my sword and shield. This helps convince me I need a DR650 more than any of those other bikes. I have a 690 but I bet the little Suzuki is a better tractor for these sorts of trails. Probably wear you out much less!

    Great route; I've done some of it previously 20 years ago as a solo rider. What I do not understand is why everyone overestimates the risk of the trails and speed and why no one seems to be able to right their downed motorcycle.

    This is not hard riding but more about conditioning . The gal on the wr250 should be blasting through those sections I know I've done it. Hey not everyone is a pro rider and norther I'm I but this is more about togetherness. Bravo ... Makes me confident to not get a big adv and make my wr250r a true light adv bike

    Just completed a North to South run a few weeks ago. This was a lot of fun to watch and remember. So glad I did it on a Husky 901X and not one of those giant bmw's. I had my doubts about this route as it wasn't as technically challenging as some of the other bdr's I've done but the scenery more than made up for it. Could kind of tune out, take in the sites and finish up a section in 5-6 hrs. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys these routes. Probably ride it again in the future for some buddies first bdr.

    Really love seeing Sterling Noren on here. That dude is a Gem and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He is true salt of the earth and just loves to ride. These BDR films are usually kind of cringe and filled with too many personalities from different companies trying to represent their brand. Like this guy on the Zero. 120 mile range? What a joke. That only works when you have a big publication like this with planned stopped and an extraction team one phone call away. The common man could not make the BDR on a zero.

    • @MeerkatADV
      @MeerkatADV 5 днів тому

      Most of the BDR's have been completed by people on electric bikes. This was the first time the filming expedition used one, not the first time they've been used on a BDR.

      Your front brakes are 75% of your braking force, on or off road and you can brake much more than you typically think. Please get some training before taking on an off road route such as this.

    Be careful in rural area of California. Cartel is setting shop in many places. My friend was on a forest trail and came across some. He was fortunate to do a quick U turn and outrun them. If that is disturbing, start contacting your elected officials at the local and especially state level demanding they do something about it.
